Council 81: Here for you while You Make Delaware Happen

A message from the Staff and Executive Director at AFSCME Council 81 to our Presidents:

Not all heroes wear capes, some are public employees

We know that you hear all the time that these are unprecedented times and it's true. This is a once in a generation world-wide event, that has proven the back bone of this country aren't CEOs and bankers but the custodians, sanitation workers, and everyday heroes that we represent up and down the state of Delaware—from nurses, CNAs, and attendants to workers at the Department of Labor, to the men and women keeping our roads and bridges safe at DelDOT. The social workers who are still in the field, the county, municipal and university employees who are still ensuring their employers can keep up with the demands of the public.

That's why the offices at Council 81 remain open. Staff are working on a rotating basis, and someone is at the office to answer your calls Monday through Friday from 9am-5pm like we always have been. You're working hard to make Delaware happen, and we're here to support your efforts. Please call our office before coming in so we can handle your request safely and in a timely manner (an in compliance with all current executive orders). In the meantime, you should also reach out to your Staff Representatives if you have any contact issues as you've been doing.

We are working diligently with the state to keep all workers safe and healthy. This is our top priority. With that in mind we wanted to make sure that you had the most up to date FAQ's from the Department of Human Resources (DHR), last updated on 3.16.20.  This comprehensive list of questions and answers is a good guide to just about any question you may have regarding our current situation. Please share this with your members, forward it to them via email, and post it to your union boards. If you still have a question, please don't hesitate to reach out to your Staff Representative or Council 81. We are here to get you answers.
