Council 81 Statement on COVID19

Sisters and Brothers:

AFSCME Council 81 has stood with our front line workers every day during this global pandemic. That is why we have encouraged our members to get vaccinated as soon as they were eligible. We have worked with employers to provide vaccines to front line workers onsite and worked to ensure that employers protected workers throughout one of the toughest years to date.

To that end, we support Governor Carney's recent announcement requiring all state employees to wear masks in all state buildings beginning Monday, August 16. We also support Gov. Carney's plan to have all state employees certify that they have been vaccinated and for those who do not wish to be vaccinated or do not wish to disclose that information, be tested weekly. The state also respects employees who have a religious or medical reason to opt out and encourage members who this may apply to, to request accommodations.

For more information on testing, vaccines and what you can do to protect yourself and your family, please check out the State of Delaware's website, by clicking here.

Stay safe.

In Solidarity,

Mike Begatto
