As we all prepare to spend Mother's Day with our moms, grandmothers, aunts and women who have been like mothers to us, we at Council 81 wanted to take a minute to thank all of the women in our lives and in our union who are the caregivers of their families. We know that when women have a seat at the table, their voices are heard and when women lead more sustainable solutions are implemented. Nationwide a majority of workers in state and local governments covered by collective bargaining agreements are women. In Delaware, nearly a third of our local unions have women at the helm and nearly all of our locals have at least one woman serving as an executive board member or shop steward. We owe a debt of gratitude to the women in our live and in our union for leading us forward and doing so with grit and grace. On this Mother's Day we hope you'll join us in thanking all the women in your life, be it your mom, grandmother, aunt or a mentor—and together we'll continue to move Delaware and our union forward!
